Background
Shaher Awartani: Investor, Founder, and Construction Leader Based in Abu Dhabi
Shaher Awartani is an Abu Dhabi-based businessman and investor whose career spans construction, real estate, healthcare, private equity, hospitality, and regulated financial services. His professional record is defined by the founding of Silver Coast Construction & Boring LLC in Abu Dhabi in 1997, a company that has, over 27 years of operation, delivered USD 1.35 billion in completed project value across the UAE while managing a peak workforce of 4,500 employees. That construction foundation has served as the institutional basis for a portfolio that now extends across the UAE, Switzerland, and the United States.
In real estate investment, Shaher Awartani co-founded High Point Real Estate LLC in Dubai in 2017, in partnership with H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba, H.E. Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, and Ahmed Ismail Bashee. The company has developed and owns two residential assets in Dubai valued at USD 100 million. In 2020, he and his partners became substantial shareholders in Reem Hospital Abu Dhabi, a healthcare investment alongside Mubadala Investment Company, InvestCorp of Bahrain, and Wisayah Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aramco, as co-investors.
His engagement with regulated financial services began within the Dubai International Financial Centre. In 2013, Shaher Awartani co-founded Equalis Capital Ltd in the DIFC alongside H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba, establishing his initial presence within the Centre’s regulatory environment. In 2015, he was invited to join the board of directors of Global Gate Capital Partners in Geneva as a shareholder. The firm manages more than USD 2 billion in assets across real estate and private equity through its group of companies. In 2024, he co-founded Yasa Capital (DIFC) Limited, an investment and advisory firm authorized by the Dubai Financial Services Authority as a Category 4 regulated entity. That authorization, which required the DFSA’s fit-and-proper assessment applied to the entity and its principals, positions Yasa Capital within one of the region’s financial regulatory frameworks.
The hospitality sector is also represented in the portfolio. In 2017, Shaher Awartani became a co-founder of Café Milano Abu Dhabi, located within the Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi, the only location outside Washington, D.C. Partners on that venture include H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba and Mubadala Investment Company. Manufacturing activity is reflected through Abaad Wood Industries, co-founded in 2010.
He completed his secondary education at Queen’s College Taunton in Somerset, UK, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Toledo in 1986. His philanthropic activity includes a private scholarship program established in 2015 and documented donations to the Children’s National Medical Center’s Sheikh Zayed Campus for Advanced Pediatric Medicine in Washington, D.C.
